A Voice

A voice I will send with my dance. Hear me! The land, hear me! A voice I am sending from all over. Hear me and I will live!

Daniel Campbell is a Southern Shoshone, He has learned to connect with Spirit through his dance. At first Daniel saw the Pow Wow on it's most basic level. As a gathering the Pow Wow is a time and place when all people can come together. It is a time of reunion and introduction. For a child the Pow Wow is exciting and fun. It is a chance to meet old freinds and new relatives. Everyone is a "Cousin" and there are the smells of barbaque and fry bread in the air. And there are the drums. Daniel can feel the drums beating in his chest, he can hear them with his every fiber. The drums beat like the heart of Mother Earth late into the night and he falls asleep to their sound. As Daniel reached the age of twelve he began to see the connection between his dancing and Spirit. He knew that each dance was a prayer, each step was a tribute to the four-leggeds, the feathered people, and the very grass that is part of the world. The Dance has become a communion between Daniel and Spirit. Each time that he places his feet into the circle he feels the responsibility to pray so that the world becomes a better place.
